Nero from the Devil May Cry series
Don’t want to classify this one as part of sketch a day.
Just trying out painting. It’s nicer than my previous attempt, but I still feel something is missing. I don’t know how people do this, I really admire them for having the patience to ;; maybe it’s because I’m just guessing what I’m doing LOL
Minor adjustments to contrast and color since it looked a little grey.
"Ice mages with pink tinted noses and glinting frosty hair."
Based off of otherwindow’s post.
FINISHED THE PICTURE I FEEL FREE
Grey Fox // Frank Jaeger from the Metal Gear series
Based off the Play Arts Kai figure, there are a couple of variations of the design.
Don’t draw enough male characters (because female characters are more easier and fun to draw
don’t take this out of context), so I thought I’d choose this fellow. He was victim to an experiment in corsshatching as a means for colouring and it took much longer than I planned, but it was interesting as a practise. I’m sure I used a method that made this sketch much more tougher for me, but it turned out alright.
Got lazy in the end
The lovely Hinako Sano, actor and model, based off this photo. It is part of a set but I couldn’t find any immediate posts in the tag.
This was a fun one, since I’m exploring the style that I tried with 166 (which started out with a picture from last year that I haven’t published), and it’s a likeness exercise. I feel with anime it’s really difficult to translate an actual person’s appearance to it because the style is very specific, but picking Hinako’s main features helped it look somewhat like her:
- The shape of the top of her head is very rounded, at least with this hairstyle
- Her jawline meets at the chin as a very gentle point. Don’t know if it’s the camera angles from the shoot or not.
- Her eyesmiles are asymmetrical. Looking at her other photos, it seems to alternate with which eye is more pushed up by her cheeks when she smiles. I tried to depict that, but it was tough. It’s a cute feature though.
- The indentations of the ends of her lips are prominent when her face is neutral or smiling with her mouth closed. I wasn’t able to add it in the illustration, but her lips are a noticeable part of her face, kind of defined and pouty. Don’t know how to put it.
- She has rosy cheeks, couldn’t leave it out haha. But in particular, this photoshoot (and probably the makeup too) made them much more pink/red than they usually are.
- And the mole on her right cheek. Can’t miss it.
Requested some time ago by Japan-Cloud. Hope you like it!
Admittedly I am a fan of Ms. Sano’s work and the above request is a fan blog for her photos, lol.
Beat from the Jet Set Radio Series
Forgot to sketch something yesterday, it’s 4:32am the day after, so I thought I’d share this progress shot for the Jet Set Radio Fanzine. Even then this might not make it into the final picture. Artistic process, am I right… ;u; Anyone who is a fan of the series should really consider joining because I think there are not enough people on it!!
Really proud of the dynamism (I think) I gotten into the sketch. Little things like this goes a long way in motivating me.
Also, many apologies because I realised I wrote a very similar text post in sketch #166’s comments to #165’s. History repeating itself. ;;;;;; But (later) today should be a sketch of one of the requests I’ve received.
I’m going to sleep now, enjoy the picture!
Inori Aizawa, Internet Explorer’s Mascot
Sorry for the lack of sketches, end of high school and holiday last year splintered my schedule and I never found the time to keep this blog active. I appreciate the new followers, considering you found me at a time when nothing much was happening.
Anyway thought I’d start 2014 off with a nicer sketch than I’d usually draw, this in particular requested by Tammy.
Any outstanding requests I promise I’ll get to, I know there are some I need to work on.
Aria’s first flight with Emile teaching her (a character I want to keep secret for the time being). I thought this scene was cute, and I wanted to get the idea out of my head. Also a practise on trying to create genuine expression without having to resort to the usual anime/manga emoticons.
Sorry for the lack of updates, so much has been happening. I’m on holiday in the US, and learning to draw on my brother’s tablet and on my recent laptop is a bit disorienting, so the quality of the sketches may be a little weird until then.
I have not forgotten about the requests I’ve received, I’ll work on them as soon as I figure this out; it’s not the same as my dear desktop back home haha.
